We know that&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/gmb-conversion-factors\/\">photos are a conversion factor<\/a>,&nbsp; and recently there has been evidence indicating that photos positively impact rankings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cImages! Most digital marketers only consider images from a design\/conversion perspective, but we\u2019ve seen some compelling evidence that Google is analyzing the contents of the photos and factoring it into rankings. For example, a dentist might have a photo on their homepage of a happy family with white teeth smiles, and Google interprets that as a photo of a \u201cfamily\u201d. That\u2019s not really contributing much to what you want this page to rank for. Instead, use a photo that Google sees a \u201cdentist\u201d in. You can upload your images to Google\u2019s Vision AI (Google it) to see the keywords and entities that Google is extracting from your images.\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Darren Shaw<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Google classifies photos and analyzes your images to interpret the photos on your business profile and website.&nbsp; In fact, Google has a classification engine,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/vision\/\">Vision AI,&nbsp;<\/a>that helps it understand the images you\u2019re sharing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team at Patient Pop wanted a deeper understanding how Google was interpreting the images on their client\u2019s Google Business Profiles and websites, so they teamed up with a professional photographer who used the Vision AI API during a live photoshoot at a dental practice. No photos, no appeal. No sense of the company. Photos added by business owners and customers are published instantly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Try to avoid using stock photos \u2013 they are not the best representation of your business and they often are a disservice to your company. Invest the time and effort into creating quality photos. When we say optimize your photos \u2013 we are not saying add your geo-coordinates and calling it a day. We have yet to see any evidence that stuffing keywords and spamming your images EXIF data will help you rank better.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Logo Badge in GBP<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Google started to \u201creward\u201d businesses with additional branding opportunities for profiles in 2019. If a profile is verified and has filled out all the business information \u2013 hours, phone number, and so on, a small image of their business logo appears in the right-hand side of the business profile. It\u2019s simple enough to unlock this feature and add another layer of trust for searchers looking and expand your branding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"802\" src=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-76-1024x802.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-76-1024x802.png 1024w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-76-300x235.png 300w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-76-768x601.png 768w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-76-1536x1203.png 1536w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-76.png 1742w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Photos from Customers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Google doesn\u2019t just want to see photos posted by the business, they have added new features to increase crowdsourced\/user generated photos from customers as well.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Updates from Customers<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the Google Maps App Customers are prompted to \u201c<em>show others what it\u2019s like there now<\/em>\u201d&nbsp; add a photo update and caption. This feature is available to all Maps users and is located under \u201cUpdates -&gt; By visitors\u201d. This feature has similarities in visibility to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/google-posts\/\">Google Posts<\/a>&nbsp;published by the business. If a customer adds a photo here it will show up in the photos section of a business profile, as well as in the Updates section in the Maps app and Desktop Maps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There also appears to be no expiry on the photo update. If a customer has added a photo update to your profile then it will remained published under the updates from customers section and only be replaced by the latest update. Owners beware, there could be uploaded images that showcase your business in an unfavourable manner. This is another reason why you need to consistently monitor your Google Business Profile. If you\u2019re a service area business (SAB), it\u2019s going to be 0 (you won\u2019t even have the option in your dashboard), but if you\u2019re a restaurant, hotel, beauty salon, spa, or any business where being clean, cool, trendy, etc is important, then investing in a virtual tour could help convert searchers to customers. People like to know what they can expect, especially if they are looking for services where the atmosphere, design, and environment are part of the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For local businesses just starting out with their local marketing, a virtual tour is also a low investment that can have a high-return. A lot of businesses have yet to take advantage of this feature, however; it&nbsp; does seem to be popular with customers; local attractions appear to have the most videos, like farmer\u2019s markets, building towers, museums, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/business\/answer\/6103862?hl=en\">Google\u2019s current video guidelines<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Duration: Up to 30 seconds long.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>File size: Up to 75 MB.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resolution: 720p or higher.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0We have seen videos added that are up to a minute and a half in length, so it may be the case that the 30 seconds long is the recommended duration, and you can go over this length of time\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-83-1024x490.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5382\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-83-1024x490.png 1024w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-83-300x144.png 300w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-83-768x367.png 768w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-83-1536x735.png 1536w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/image-83.png 1714w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What you need to know about videos:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Your videos need to be filmed at your place of business. They cannot be stock videos or a compilation of cheesy stock photos with music over it (please don\u2019t do that).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.
