Today, I\u2019d like to offer you just a few really good email and SMS templates for maximizing what reviews can do for your brand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Darren Shaw and I were both impressed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/amy-toman-%F0%9F%97%BA%EF%B8%8F-25945047_shoutout-to-the-seo-team-at-the-home-depot-activity-7356311212977971201-D5hv\/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAACfvt4BlTIYKNipotkJmjYVfXOkoWpMH7o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a LinkedIn post from Amy Toman<\/a> in which she praised Home Depot for sending her a review request containing suggested elements to include in her review of a product she\u2019d purchased. Amy asked if multiple industries could benefit from this review acquisition approach, and we definitely think so. Let\u2019s see how!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"power-reviews\">Power reviews &#8211; what can they do for your business?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">At a basic level, review volume and recency are <a href=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/local-search-ranking-factors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">strongly believed to impact rankings in Google\u2019s local search engine results and Maps<\/a>, so they have an intrinsic benefit regardless of what reviewers actually include in them. But power reviews can do so much for you. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"586\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8823\" style=\"width:715px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt.jpg 586w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt-300x128.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 586px) 100vw, 586px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Reviews that include images<\/strong> (like the above) appear to stay at the top of your Google Business Profile reviews section longer than those without this content, according to studies <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sterlingsky.ca\/photos-with-google-reviews\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">like this one from Sterling Sky<\/a>. Studies (like one I\u2019ll link to in a moment) show that reviews that contain images and videos are more trusted by consumers, so it\u2019s great to have those highly featured near the top of your review set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"604\" src=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt1-1024x604.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8824\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt1-1024x604.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt1-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt1-768x453.jpg 768w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt1.jpg 1039w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>In Google Local Packs and Maps, reviews that include specific language<\/strong> about products, services, amenities, and features of the business can be excerpted in Google local packs as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/searchengineland.com\/guide\/the-current-state-of-google-local-justifications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local justifications<\/a>\u201d. See the above examples of customers mentioning pies in their reviews. Despite the fact that none of the businesses in this set has the word \u201cpies\u201d in their business name, these justifications confirm to potential customers that these bakeries offer this menu item.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"357\" src=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8825\" style=\"width:545px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt2.jpg 450w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt2-300x238.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>In Google Business Profiles, reviews that include specific language<\/strong> can be highlighted in the Review Summary section of the listing. The above screenshot shows the results I experienced when searching for \u201cbathroom remodel San Francisco\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"451\" height=\"174\" src=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt4.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8826\" style=\"width:574px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt4.jpg 451w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt4-300x116.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 451px) 100vw, 451px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">And, if enough customers review a specific aspect of the business, it will become a \u201cplace topic\u201d, meaning that searchers can filter to see reviews referring to \u201cbathroom remodel\u201d or another key feature of the business. These features could help your brand receive more qualified leads from potential customers who are looking for a very specific service, product, or amenity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt3-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/rt3-768x384.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Reviews that contain detailed descriptions<\/strong> of the customer\u2019s experience earn a 33% increase in consumer trust that the review is legitimate, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/go.gatherup.com\/beyond-the-stars-how-american-consumers-use-reviews-to-choose-local-businesses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this large survey of 1,200+ US consumers I worked on with GatherUp<\/a>. Given the <a href=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/blog\/fake-ai-reviews-are-ruining-google-what-can-we-do\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">serious problem of review fraud<\/a>, reviews that appear authentic will become an increasingly valuable asset if predictions hold true that platforms like Google Business Profile are about to be <a href=\"https:\/\/askfortransparency.com\/research\/high-cost-of-review-fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overrun with AI-generated review content<\/a>. Hat tip to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/claudia-tomina-ab78692a_googles-testing-structured-review-questions-activity-7358240746694402050-ROoY\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Claudia Tomina<\/a> for capturing an apparent expansion of Google\u2019s quest to get more information about specific aspects of local businesses by having them select from large sets of pre-populated attributes when leaving a review. Lots of questions need to be answered about where Google is getting the wording of these labels from and how they might impact your ability to rank for tons of terms that might not even be on your website. Parlay that into the review scenario. Don\u2019t imagine that customers know how much you\u2019d value a really detailed review from them unless you\u2019re specifically stating that. Apart from sending review requests:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Photograph your own premises and include a unique image in each review request in case the customer hasn\u2019t taken their own pictures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Train staff to identify happy customers and ask for reviews in person of the specific item\/service that\u2019s been purchased<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Create photo ops on your premises with signage to please come take selfies so that the Instacrowd feels welcomed and invited<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">If you\u2019re marketing a destination like a restaurant and people are having a celebration there, offer to take group photos or video shorts so that the customer has these assets right on their phone. Mention you\u2019d love to see the pictures in a review.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Ask service area business customers if they\u2019d allow you to take a few photos\/a video short of a project you\u2019re doing for them, and that you\u2019ll send them the images\/videos for their use in a review.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Feature customer reviews in your in-store signage with a message about how much you\u2019d appreciate a review. For example, a restaurant could create posters showing off some of the best things reviewers have said about it, and then include a QR code for diners to leave their own reviews.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Put review requests on print assets like menus and receipts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">If there\u2019s a new product or service for which you need publicity, be sure to feature it in your review requests so that customers know you\u2019d especially value feedback about it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Respond to all reviews. Studies show it inspires review writers when they know they\u2019ll receive a response from the brand.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"authenticity\">Riding the review authenticity wave that\u2019s headed your way<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The Transparency Company report linked to earlier in this post predicts that, as soon as the end of 2026, we could be seeing <em>more AI-generated reviews than human-written content on platforms like GBP<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">If this proves true then what\u2019s in jeopardy is the most influential form of content your local business currently has going for it. Enough really hasn\u2019t been written about what\u2019s at stake, and it deserves full coverage of its own, but in brief:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Humans trust reviews because they can relate to other human experiences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Humans can\u2019t relate to fictitious experiences generated by AI<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As awareness of AI review generation grows, trust in review content will diminish (I once had AI tell me it had eaten at a local restaurant and get surly with me when I insisted that wasn\u2019t possible)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">So, while you\u2019re focusing on earning as many detailed reviews as possible to enjoy the extra benefits they currently provide, I\u2019d advise you to also be thinking about:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">How to earn detailed hand-written testimonials and customer photos and videos that you can publish as GBP content, website content, and social proof content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">How to earn first-party reviews on your website using software like <a href=\"https:\/\/whitespark.ca\/reputation-builder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Whitespark\u2019s Reputation Builder<\/a> to publish review content that will look more authoritative and authentic because your own business is posting it.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\">How to create a loyalty program that results in real world word-of-mouth recommendations.
